An alternative to the Camino Aragones and the Somport, the old route over the Col de Pau/Puerto del Palo to the Carolingian monastery of Siresa, which some claim as the original Roman road, is marked on the Spanish side as the GR653-3. After Siresa, the GR does not descend the Aragon valley to Puente la Reina de Jaca but goes further west, rejoining the Aragones at Berdun or Martes.
