Via Lemovicensis
Vézelay, Le Veurdre, Gargilesse, Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, Limoges, Périgueux, Mont-de-Marsan, Orthez, Ostabat; Vézelay, Bourges, Gargilesse; Périgueux, Montréal du Gers
There are essentially 2 different routes:
- The Amis et Pèlerins de Saint-Jacques de la Voie de Vézelay have concentrated on the historic line with 2 alternatives in the eastern section, one via Nevers and one via Bourges. The route is marked with the European scallop-shell logo, and a guide is available: Itinéraire Pèlerin de Saint-Jacques sur la Voie de Vézelay with full mapping and accommodation lists. A network of pilgrim refuges is also being created.
There is mapping for the route in Gironde on the site of the Association Régionale des Amis de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle en Aquitaine, a complete guide of the route through the Landes on the Société Landaise des Amis de Saint Jacques site, and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Amis de St Jacques describe their section on their website. The Conseil Général produce a leaflet for the section through the Gironde La Voie de Vézelay en Gironde, but the route this follows differs somewhat from that in the Amis guide. - The Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre (FFRP) has marked a much longer walkers route as the GR654, waymarked with red and white stripes. This route concentrates less on the historic line, seeking to avoid tarmac. After Périgueux, it splits, with the GR654 Est running south to the GR65 at Montréal-du-Gers, and the GR654 Ouest continuing on to La Réole and Ostabat.
