I mapped all the routes in the Romweg-Karte, so those from eastern places like Gdansk and Krakow are shown here, as is the important node at Erfurt; however, I have not investigated any personal itineraries from these parts. The emphasis here is on the west, where the main N-S axis is the Rhine valley. The main nodes on this are Cologne, with its important shrines, the Mainz/Worms/Speyer area (the map here is somewhat simplified), and Basel. Several routes are given between Speyer and Basel, either on the west or the east bank.
Routes connecting into the Rhine are from the north (Nikulas, from Denmark via Stade), and the west from Maastricht via Aachen to Cologne.
East of the Rhine, important nodes were the Danube crossing-points at Ulm and Donauwörth, from where roads headed south to the Alpine passes of Reschen or Brenner. To the west, other routes in the Netherlands and Alsace-Lorraine are included in this region.
The only E-W route given here is from Vienna via Munich and Lake Constance to Basel, used by de la Broquière on his return from the Holy Land.
