The Walking Pilgrim

The Walking Pilgrim - About These Pages

These pages are a revamp of my previous Caminos de Santiago pages, together with the other pilgrimage-related pages: those on medieval itineraries, routes to S England ports, and routes in N Wales. A brief history of the Caminos pages is as follows:

  • 1998: the original document was an article on the various routes to Santiago that were being created. This appeared in issue 62 of the Bulletin of the Confraternity of St James in 1998; see the introduction to this article, much of which is still relevant
  • 1999: first webpages set up
  • 2003: so much happened on the Camino front that the pages were revamped. At this time, an update article was written for the Bulletin, but never appeared as it was simply too large! See introduction to this article
  • 2005: route pages were completely revamped and converted to database
  • 2008: there were now so many route developments that the old Caminos section of my website was getting out of hand; many routes were not or not solely connected with Santiago. In addition, I wanted to expand on the non-Santiago information, so I decided the best thing to do was to completely revamp the site, putting all pilgrimage-related pages, whether Santiago-related or not, in their own subdomain, the Walking Pilgrim

So, the emphasis in this new subdomain is still on Santiago, as that's where most of the development has gone, but I hope to gradually expand the non-Santiago information. You can still reach the other sections of the website at the main www.peterrobins.co.uk address, including some information on walking in general; see the links above. See the Routes introduction for general information on the routes database.

As before, I will put changes in the 'Changes' page.
